The game known as Association Football, that is also identified as soccer, or more usually football, is now the sport with the most international support. This wide appeal of football is the outcome, not only from spectators packing into huge sports grounds through the turnstiles, but also from media cover, where vast sums are paid for the finanacial advantages of broadcasting matches. Going back to 1930 the most important prize, the world cup, was won in approximately the same measure by South American and European national teams. Global football is a very, very, big business. From gate money, to media rights, well known sponsors, to replica football strips, a vast sports business has arisen. Grown men and small boys, and quite a number of girls and women, fancy wearing the strips of the popular clubs or footballers. They kick balls around in parks, waste ground, and also on quiet roads.

International football has assisted with race relations, but that has not been without some difficulties, along the way. Soccer players from all ethnic groups have become renowned because of their abilities, when they have been signed up by clubs in other countries. Top players from Asia, Europe, South America, Australia, Africa the United States are idolized, and they are frequently on the move on the international circuit. This has achieved a great deal in getting rid of intolerant race related behaviour.

In the electronic age there has been a great deal of criticism, about children not taking sufficient physical exercise. However, it is noteworthy, that amongst children, knocking a ball about is still very common. There are not many will be able to earn an income as professional footballers, but a vast number will maintain their interest, as fans. Supporters, from far and wide will be able to follow the fortunes of their favorites, and be entertained by the talent of the fortunate few professionals, who are endowed with the chance of achieving the thwarted goals of those who watch and wonder.
