Whilst people have teamed up to kick a ball around for ages, the game of football or international soccer was coded in England in the 19th
century. Nowadays, FIFA which stands for Federation Internationale de Football Association, oversees the great game of football.
Whilst soccer has humble beginnings, there is more to the game than a newcomer may initially consider. Simply stated the game involves two teams
of eleven members who oppose one another on a pitch, that measures about 90 meters long x 45 meters wide. The objective is to score goals by
manipulating the ball into the rival net, which is a structure measuring 7.3 meters wide X 2.4 meters high. Each team is comprised of attackers,
midfielders, and defenders. One of the defenders is called the goalkeeper, who can use his hands to prevent the ball from entering the net.
This wide appeal of football has resulted, not just from supporters packing into enormous stadiums through the ticket points, but also from media
exposure, where fortunes are paid for the finanacial advantages of broadcasting fixtures. Going back to 1930 the most important trophy, the world
cup, was won in approximately the same measure by South American and European nations. Global soccer is a an enormous industry. From turnstile
receipts, to media rights, big time sponsors, to replica football gear, a vast industry has been created. Small boys and grown men, and quite a
number of girls and women, want to wear the sports attire of the popular clubs or footballers. Some dribble balls around in parks, wasteland, and
even quiet roads.
Global soccer has been a great unifier but it hasn't been lacking some difficulties, during the process. Football players from all races have
become acclaimed because of their abilities, when they have been sought after by teams outside the country of their birth. Top footballers from
Africa, Australia, the United States, Europe, Asia and South America are almost legendary, and they are frequently transferred between clubs on
the international circuit. Fortunately this has gone a long way towards eliminating prejudiced racial abuses.
Currently, there is much disapproval, concerning youngsters not engaging in an appropriate amount of physical exercise. Thank goodness then, that
for a lot of youngsters, some form of football remains exceptionally popular. Very few will be able to earn an income as professional
footballers, but the vast majority will continue with their interest, as spectators. Sporting enthusiasts, everywhere are able to track the
progress of their favorites, and marvel at the ability of the privileged few professionals, who have been endowed with the opportunity of
accomplishing the past ambitions of them all.
