Information on lesson plans for soccer skills
As a game association football is commonly referred to as just football, but is also called soccer, to differentiate it from the entirely
different version, that is played in the USA. Notwithstanding that soccer has only limited appeal in the United States, that huge country has
trained plenty of excellent players, and some of them have played in major tournaments such as the English Premier League. Almost inevitably the
success of soccer has not eluded American tycoons, and a number of them have a controlling interest, in several of the best established soccer
teams with international reputations.
Some people berate the game of football, and the job of soccer players, but the sport requires great skill. For this reason professional
footballers are celebrities, and an accomplished few can secure salaries amounting to tens of thousands of dollars per week. The struggle to
reach the highest standards is intense, but there are lots of examples of talented youngsters from poor surroundings, progressing to become first
rate players. You should be aware, that those that do forge a top class career, to be paid the millions, are a rarity, and the big majority will
end up as supporters.
Football grounds are fantastic, purpose built structures, that can hold up to 100,000 people. If the ticket price for top matches was around £20,
gate receipts would be £2 million. However, such sums are paltry, compared to what television and other commercial organizations are prepared to
pay for exclusive contracts. Without doubt soccer is an intercontinental sports business, with the best players, managers, and owners, generating
salaries equal to movie stars, and movie tycoons.
Talented players are being discovered in various places including, Africa, Asia, and Australia. Not to forget the United States, helped by their
successful hosting of the world cup in 1994. The Glazer family of Tampa Bay fame, have acquired Manchester United, known as the worlds most
wealthy soccer club. It would be difficult to estimate on the collective value of the major players, and the clubs they are contracted to play
for.
It is difficult to assess why international soccer has developed into the sporting colossus it is today. You may wonder how it is that two teams
of eleven players, kicking a ball around for an hour and a half, with a half time break part way through, merit such passionate attention.
Possibly it is because there are young sportsmen, in great physical shape, who through their skill, provide excitement in a game that lots of
people have played. It supplies an opportunity, to speculate on what might have been, if only you had considered football as a possible
occupation!
