Small boys and grown men, and some girls and women, yearn to wear the strips of the popular clubs or players. Some kick balls around in playgrounds, waste ground, and even quiet streets.

Star players are emerging in many different continents including, Africa, Asia, and Australia. Not to forget the USA, assisted by their staging of the world cup in 1994. Astonishingly the Glazer family of Tampa Bay fame, have bought Manchester United, famous as the worlds wealthiest football club. We can only begin to speculate on the collective value of the highest paid players, and the clubs they are signed up for.

Currently, there is a lot of disapproval, concerning youngsters not engaging in enough bodily exercise. We can be thankful then, that for a lot of youngsters, some form of football remains extremely popular. Very few will be able to earn a living as professional footballers, but the vast majority will continue with their interest, as football fans. Enthusiasts, from far and wide will be able to gauge the progress of their chosen clubs, and be in awe of the ability of the fortunate few professionals, who are blessed with the chance of achieving the past dreams of so many
