International Soccer - Football Clubs - Soccer Players

International Soccer Is The King Of Sports

Horse racing may be the "Sport of Kings" but international soccer is the "King of Sports" with some soccer players even more famous than top jockeys.

There are millions of people, all over the world, who consider football to be the greatest game that was ever invented. It has been exported from England, where soccer was established with the formation of the Football Association (FA) in 1863, from which the term soccer was derived. Since those early days it has expanded into the sporting colossus it is today.

International soccer has become increasingly popular, with world famous football clubs in Europe, South America, Australia, Africa and Asia, but only has a small toehold in the United States of America, where they favour their own version of football, which is a completely different ball game. However, there are some excellent American soccer players, and they even hosted the World Cup in 1994. Perhaps one day they will realize what they are missing, and join in with the rest of the world. They will be extremely welcome.

Football Clubs Are Huge Enterprises

Nowadays football matches are played, between football clubs all over the world. They take place in magnificent stadiums and arenas, where the cheers for players on match days, could more than equal those that greeted the gladiators who fought in the coliseums of old. Sometimes there are jeers as well, so things haven't really changed that much! Fortunately soccer players are renowned for their ball skills, and not for their prowess with a sword, or spear.

The football stadiums of many football clubs are incredible, show places, that can accommodate many thousands of people. If the entry price for important games was about $40, the gate money would be four million dollars. Even that sum is insignificant, against that which television and other companies are willing to offer for media rights. Without doubt soccer is an international entertainment operation, with top managers, players, and owners, receiving payment comparable with Hollywood stars, and movie magnates.

The success of international soccer has resulted in soccer players emerging from every continent, including, Australia, Africa, and Asia. Yes and even the United States, assisted by their staging of the world cup in 1994. Astonishingly the Glazer family of Tampa Bay renown, have acquired Manchester United Football Club, reputed to be the worlds wealthiest football club. It would be impossible to put a figure on the collective value of the highest paid players, and the clubs they are signed up for.

Privileged Soccer Players

In the electronic age there has been a lot of publicity, about children not taking enough physical exercise. We can be thankful then, that for a lot of children, some form of football is still very popular. Few will be able to earn a living as soccer players, but the vast majority will persist with their interest, as spectators. Sporting enthusiasts, everywhere will be able to track the fortunes of their favorites, and be in awe at the ability of the highly accomplished and privileged soccer players, who have been blessed with the opportunity of demonstrating their unique talent on the field of international soccer.

There are so many questions that you may want to ask about "the beautiful game" of football. For instance:

WHAT does a professional soccer player get paid?

WHY do soccer players need fans?

WHEN was the first football club formed?

HOW does a soccer ball curve?

WHERE can I get the latest soccer results?

WHO is the most famous soccer player?
